Who We AreConserving Tradition Inc. exists as a source of traditional know-how in activities such as canning, soft and hard cheesemaking, growing crops, hunting, processing meat, growing crops, raising poultry and livestock, and other traditional homesteading activities. We focus especially on helping people living in suburban or semi-rural areas preserve these traditions. Historically this information was passed from parents to children. We're there to step in to make sure the information is not lost and that these traditional activities are as available to new generations just as they were to their forefathers.

Our HistoryConserving Tradition was founded in Suffolk County, New York, to help retain the historic culture in the area in the face of large-scale suburbanization. Whereas grandparents and great-grandparents grew up with traditional know-how, it was found that the suburbanization that had occurred broke down the chain passing knowledge from parent to child. People who wanted to engaged in traditional homesteading activities did not have a means to re-learn what their ancestors knew. We are here to give these new generations the beautiful gifts of their ancestors.
